Yashepheh for Winds, Percussion and Piano

Yashepheh takes its name from the Hebrew word for Jasper, the first foundational stone of the City of God, see Revelations 21:19. I tried to imagine the great gates of the city opening up as I wrote the piece. Musically, the work is an experiment in chiastic structures; mirror forms like ABBA or ABCCBA.

Instrumentation:

  • Oboe
  • English Horn
  • Horn in F
  • Viola
  • Percussion (at least two players)
  • Piano
